patient for a day

just came back from act-as-a-patient in the final mbbs exam at ttsh. i think it was quite an eye opener to see how the clinical examination was conducted and things tt the examiners were looking out for. anyway we were all arranged into 8 groups where 1 candidate would visit 1 group, so there would be 8 candidates taking the exam simultaneously.

the first candidate was SUPER POWERFUL can... everything also know, went through everything like a breeze until the prof had to ask himi some macham question to slow him down. i was flabbergasted too looking at how he examined and diagnosed each patients. haha, the smile on the examiners' faces just told of their expectation for a great day ahead examining these elite breed of doctors-to-be.

well, of course... hao(2) jing(3) bu(4) chang(2) and the 2nd candidate didn't do as well... haiyoh, i felt so sorry for her and i think she almost broke into tears liao... the profs were guiding her along and just asked her some very simple leading questions... i think she should pass lar in the end, afterall arn't they supposed to try their best to pass us at the mbbs. the killing supposedly comes in the post grad exams.

total there were 6 students, the profs picked out a couple of cases for each candidate, ie. a candidate didn't see all the patients in the group, probably only 5 out of the 8 patients. but as i'm the communication skills station ALL the 6 students came to visit and try to communicate with me. haha. aiyar, i not very hard to communicate with lar, and esp with students who didn't appear to do so well in the other clinical examinations. (well, all the real patients and fake patient were sitting close to each other mar, so can listen and watch them examine the other patients). well after the whole thing ended i realised tt i asked very simple qns. other pple were like killing hte candidates with drug Ix...

now, we were supposed to act as patients who have undergone a pancreactomy, and were prescribed lipases to take after meals. dosage is 1, 2, or 3 tablets. prob is, we don't know 1) what the tablets are for; 2) how come the dosage is variable one.

"oh, i'm taking warfarin too. will this affect me in anyway??"

something to tt extent. but no, i didn't ask so macham questions. i was asking just very simple. not drug Ix, ADR yadayada. just follow strictly to the 2 qns they give us above.

yup. totally enjoyed myself. and what an experience. they also gave us $50 for our time and effort, what's more there way free lunch. yummy! next time got this type of lobang confirm must sign up again. some pple signed up for 2 slots i heard. but don't think i'ld get another chance cause they every year also will ask m2s only.
